Why do I pour sunflower oil into the sink
It was a long time ago, about 20 years ago. My whole family went to visit my parents for the entire vacation. We really enjoyed spending almost the entire summer in the village: nature, clean air, a river nearby. And of course, we helped with the garden and the household all this time.
That time, everyone stayed for two months and did not go home. And then the time came to go home. So we crossed the threshold of our apartment, and there was a terrible smell, there was nothing to breathe.
We opened all the windows and immediately suspected that the source of the smell could be the refrigerator, but this could not be, since we disconnected it from the network. We also did not leave any food in it.
Thanks to my husband, who is a builder, we were able to determine that the smell was coming from the sewer.
It turned out that the water in the siphons dried up during the two months that we were away.
With daily use of water, which in the sewer acts as a plug and is regularly renewed, thus holding all the smells from the pipes. And since we did not use water for a long time, it dried up.
As a result, all the smells of the sewer spread throughout the apartment.
We had to call a plumber, who advised us to pour sunflower oil into all the drains in the apartment. The oil forms a film that does not dry out.
Now every time we go somewhere longer than a couple of days, I always pour sunflower oil into the sewer.
